About Dr. Nawfal

Having finished his Medical School studies at the American University of Beirut in 1987, Dr. Ghassan completed a 5-year General Surgery Specialty Training Program at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and a 2-year training program in Liver and Pancreas Surgery at the Hammersmith Hospital, Royal Postgraduate Medical School, University of London.

He returned to Lebanon late 1994 as director of the Surgery Department at the Beirut General Hospital and Consultant Surgeon in Trad Hospital and several other private hospitals in Beirut.
Even though his specialty covers the entire digestive system (see General Surgery definition next) Dr. Ghassan has a special interest in Laparoscopic Surgery (also called minimally invasive Surgery), Surgery of the Liver and Pancreas and Obesity Surgery.

He is a member and has served on the executive board of several national and international Medical and Surgical Societies such as the Lebanese Society for General Surgery (LSGS), the International HepatopancreatoBiliary Association (IHPBA) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) in which he is the President-Elect of the Lebanon Chapter.

In addition to his Medical and Surgical studies, Dr. Ghassan completed a 2-year Master Program in Hospital and Health Management in 2012 at the Ecole Superieure des Affaires/ Universite Paris VII.

Prior to any surgery, your doctor will give you a complete medical examination and evaluate your overall health and your health history. You may be required to get additional tests such as X-rays and lab tests. Your doctor will also review with you the potential risks and benefits of the operation and will ask you to sign a consent form.
