FAQ

What should I expect on my first visit to the clinic?

During your first visit, the doctor will take an extensive history, perform a full physical exam, look at all your tests and X-rays and read your referring physician’s report. He will also need to know what medications you are taking. Please make sure to bring all those documents with you.
The doctor will then explain to you about your condition and tell you what other tests or what operation or procedure might be needed to treat your condition.

How do I get prepared for surgery?

It is important to ask your doctor any questions you may have regarding your surgery. Inform him about any allergies that you may have.
Your doctor will give you specific instructions to follow prior to surgery, including guidelines on eating, drinking, smoking, medications and exercise.

What are some general guidelines prior to surgery?

Stop smoking as soon as the issue of surgery comes up. Six to eight weeks seems a reasonable period of time as smoking delays wound healing and causes breathing problems following anesthesia.

Depending on the circumstances, you may be asked to:

liquids and taking laxatives one or more days prior to surgery.

Can I choose the type of anesthesia for my surgery?

Yes you can, most of the time. Your anesthesiologist will discuss the type of anesthesia with you and inform you about the possible risks and benefits of each type during his pre-operative visit to you.

What do I need to prepare for after my surgery?

You will be given specific instructions for post surgery care. Plan your recovery. Find someone to drive you home and someone to help you with daily activities including wound care if any. Allow for time to rest as instructed by your doctor.
